Royal County Fun Run Monday May 2nd in Kells starting at 11 a.m.
The Royal County 5km takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May in Kells at 11am with actor Sorcha Furlong, who plays Orla Kirwan in the RTE soap 'Fair City', leading the way.
The event is organised by Meath Local Sports Partnership in association with St. Brigid's Athletic Club and is open to all over 12yrs. It starts and finishes at the Round Tower on Cannon Street.
Meath LSP welcomes all abilities along on the day and particularly would like to see families getting involved. So whether you are a walker, jogger or seasoned runner come along and give it a go.
At the event’s recent launch Sorcha expressed her delight to be involved with this inaugural event. As an avid jogger herself Sorcha believes the event provides a great opportunity for all members of the community to be physically active.
In preparation for the event Meath LSP has been organising Meet ‘n’ Train groups throughout the County. Over the past few weeks participants on these groups have been working hard to gradually increase their distances each week to progress to 5km for the event.
The nominated charity for the event is The National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NCBRI). The National Breast Cancer research Institute (NBCRI) is a voluntary based charity. The key objective of the NBCRI is to conduct relevant, ethical research into the biology of breast cancer, to determine the cause of this disease and improve the treatment for patients. The NBCRI also work to raise awareness of breast cancer and fundraise to provide improved breast cancer services for women throughout Ireland.
Anyone interested in either participating in this event or volunteering should contact Meath Local Sports Partnership at 046 9067337 or log onto www.meathsports.ie to either register online or download a booking form.
