Eugene O'Reilly in quarter finals of 2011 Irish 40 x 20 Nationals

Eugene O'Reilly reaches Irish 40 x 20 Nationals quarter-finals

O’Reilly safely through to quarter finals



Crossakiel’s Eugene O’Reilly is safely through to the knock out stages of the 2011 Irish 40 x 20 Nationals. In Ballaghaderreen yesterday O’Reilly took the 1st game comfortably. His opponent Galway’s Pierce Lalor picked up an injury early in the second and was forced to retire. Peter Flanagan also made a winning start at the same venue when easily disposing of Galway’s Padraig Kelly in straight games.

Eugene O’Reilly next opponent will be Wexford’s Darren O’Toole in the quarter final next Friday at a Wexford venue to be confirmed. The last time these two players met was in the 3rd round of the 2010 Leinster 40 x 20 singles last year with the Wexford men winning by 12-21, 21-12, 21-2. Peter Flanagan has the easier draw when he takes on Roscommon’s Brendan McDonagh also in the quarter-finals

Eugene O’Reilly prepares for “eggciting” National handball action over Easter


Crossakiel’s sole representative in the 2011 Irish Handball Nationals 40 x 20 is Eugene O’Reilly will be competing in the Men’s C Singles in which a field of 22 have entered. Also taking part will be Eugene’s doubles partner Kells man Peter Flanagan and Peter Reilly both expected to do well. Eugene has a qualifier on Easter Monday in Ballaghaderreen where he takes on Galway’s Pierce Lalor. Peter Flanagan also plays at the Mayo venue with a tie against Galway’s Padraig Kelly.
The 40 x 20 Nationals this year takes place at Wexford venues from Friday 29th April – Saturday 30TH April. St.Joseph’s 3 Court handball complex in Wexford will host the finals. In the 19 grades there is over 160 players from all over the country taking part in which is certain to be very competitive handball games on show.

Support the Royal County Fun Run on May 2nd

Royal County Fun Run Monday May 2nd in Kells starting at 11 a.m.

The Royal County 5km takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May in Kells at 11am with actor Sorcha Furlong, who plays Orla Kirwan in the RTE soap 'Fair City', leading the way.

The event is organised by Meath Local Sports Partnership in association with St. Brigid's Athletic Club and is open to all over 12yrs. It starts and finishes at the Round Tower on Cannon Street.
Meath LSP welcomes all abilities along on the day and particularly would like to see families getting involved. So whether you are a walker, jogger or seasoned runner come along and give it a go.

At the event’s recent launch Sorcha expressed her delight to be involved with this inaugural event. As an avid jogger herself Sorcha believes the event provides a great opportunity for all members of the community to be physically active.

In preparation for the event Meath LSP has been organising Meet ‘n’ Train groups throughout the County. Over the past few weeks participants on these groups have been working hard to gradually increase their distances each week to progress to 5km for the event.


The nominated charity for the event is The National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NCBRI). The National Breast Cancer research Institute (NBCRI) is a voluntary based charity. The key objective of the NBCRI is to conduct relevant, ethical research into the biology of breast cancer, to determine the cause of this disease and improve the treatment for patients. The NBCRI also work to raise awareness of breast cancer and fundraise to provide improved breast cancer services for women throughout Ireland.

Meath U16/17 Team made up of entire Crossakiel club players go out of Leinster team Championships

Meath U-16/17 team of made up of an entire Crossakiel club team made their exit at the semi-final stage of the Leinster team championships when going under to a stronger Kilkenny team in Ballymore Eustace last Saturday. Conor Rice, Cormac Gilsenan, Johnny Reilly & James Baugh all played well but the overall Kilkenny challenge proved that little bit stronger on the day.
