Hoping for more silverware in 2010. Peter Flanagan Kells & Eugene O'Reilly Crossakiel
06/01/2010
For the first time in a decade a Crossakiel player will represent the club in the Leinster 40 X 20 Championships. That distinction falls upon Eugene O'Reilly. Eugene has been knocking on the door for the last number of years. In 2008 he reached the final of the singles and last year reached the doubles with Kells man Peter Flanagan. Just last October the duo reached the Quarter-finals of the World Handball Championships before bowing narrowly out to the eventual champions.
The 28 year-old Longford based Engineer is training twice a week with the Kells handball players and with Galway's Pat Conway in Abbeylara. Eugene is looking forward to the start of the championships "We are hoping to getting back into the final and going one better."
The first round of the doubles takes place in Ballymore Eustace next Thursday evening. The Slaneysiders are relatively unknown and so the Meath team cannot take anything for granted. However the Crossakiel/Kells combination should have enough experience to see them through.
Best of luck Eugene.
